Our vision is to develop wind and solar projects that will ultimately facilitate access to clean energy for Kenyans and enable Kenya to achieve low-carbon development in the energy sector while enhancing its energy security.
Founded in 1993 in Germany, SOWITEC has been operating in the Kenyan market since late 2015. SOWITEC is developing grid scale solar and wind projects throughout the country. We have a project pipeline of close to 600 MW.
SOWITEC Kenya works in partnership with local communities, stakeholders and investors to develop its projects according to the highest development criteria to ensure technical feasibility and to create value for the communities near the projects.
Our sustainability framework is anchored on the delivery of clean and competitive wind and solar energy projects and creating shared value with local communities where our projects are located. Our business practices are influenced by global standards on Ethics and Transparency, Safety, Social and Environmental Commitment and Sustainability.
Team
SOWITEC Kenya includes a multidicisplinary team of highly qualified engineers, lawyers and experts for environmental issues and the engagement of communities. Together we share SOWITEC’s vision of transforming the global electricity sector to provide clean, affordable energy to all. In Kenya we especially put emphasis on the engagement of the communities near our projects and the participation of marginalized groups. As a team we strive to continualy learn everyday and improve the quality of our projects.

Environment and communities
Sustainability is engrained in our business practices and interactions with landowners and stakeholders. This enables us to build trust and develop a shared vision with them in the development of our projects.
SOWITEC engages landowners, stakeholders and communities early in the development of projects and views them as instrumental to success of our projects. The project designs are developed in consultation with landowners and relevant stakekholders.
SOWITEC conducts environmental and social impact assessments to identify potential environmental and social risks of the project to surrounding communities. During project design, initiatives to improve the environmental and social conditions of the communities are identified and implemented during the operation phase of the projects.
